I'm not allowed to say more (really) but a close family member of mine has a collection about just as big...
Edit: just checked, it's about three times smaller in quantities actually but with lots of trains, installed and running therefore it does look just as huge... :)

I wonder if this guy and your close family member have the limited edition 1/18th scale Zonda R Carbon?

Very nice collection, and great dioramas, but there's one thing that bugs me about them. He has cars on 2 wheels or drifting through turns and none of them are full oppo. All his cars point straight.
I currently have a 2001 Subaru Rally of Great Britain model to put together and it's going to be full oppo with the driver hauling on the wheel like mad and I'll be setting up with a nice RGB diorama (when I get off my ass). I guess that's the thing since most of his cars don't quite seem to be scale models, but are more akin to Matchbox cars.
But again, sweet ass collection!!!

That's quite an investment, labor of love. Cool that he makes dioramas rather than just keeps cars stored away like most collectors.

This is one of those things that if you could manage to sell all of these things...you could probably afford one of these cars in real life. Lets say all these models are worth $250,000...well I'm sure you could afford something like a Kremer K3 "935" Porsche.

Toys out of the package! The way it should be.

And probably priced more for kids than the expensive adult crap they sell now, it's got so out of hand that parents can't afford the cool stuff anymore. Even Lego prices are bat $h!t crazy these days.

and over here is my diorama of the marine barracks blowing up in 1983 and here is another diorama of Ariel Sharon supervising a massacre of Palistinian refugees

I'm watching this in open-mouthed reverence and the girlfriend cuts in with "that guy needs to get a life"....reminding me only that women are a different breed entirely.

How can something be "three times smaller"? When you multiply a number by a whole number, the result can only be larger. Do you mean it's 1/3 the size? Use fractions to show a reduction in the final outcome. C'mon, it's simple math people!

If you have the balls( haha ;) ) remind her that all that money spent on LV/Coach/Prada/Gucci/Burberry bags as well as designer clothing/accessories add up quickly too, and the time/money spent could be used to go around the world sightseeing and/or do outdoor activities. :D
*Disclaimer. Assuming your gf is not the outdoorsy type.

And the reason to bring up Israel/Palestinian conflicts in a post like this is?

AFAIK the only way to turn the wheels on those models is to chop the axles and weld them or glue the ends into position.

I know a certain businessman in Elkhart, Indiana who has a collection just as big, and he also collects Porsche cars. Very impressive indeed.

Same with guitar collectors. They're made to be played!

In this case, I decided the 1:1 scale version was a better investment, as it had a couple of spare tires in the deal. However, if I had a means of replicating the model kit once I had this set, then maybe.

I have a little toy car collection, and I'll admit I wheel some of them around now and then.

I still have all my favorite childhood Matchboxes in a shoebox, although I haven't touched them in a while. Now I want to go play with them, haha.

I used to collect die cat, matchbox/hot wheels like this, most kept in the packaging... After 15-20 years of this though, working on selling them off, because why have all this crap. I look at this guy's stash and see a bank account he ought to cash out and go buy one of the real thing. Would you rather have a room full of toys to show the internet, or a new M3. Or ZR1. Or Boss 302. Or for that matter, a vintage car that will actually appreciate.
